Putting on the New Self

You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

                                                                              - Ephesians 4:22-24 (NIV)

The start of a new year serves as a source of inspiration for many.  A new year is synonymous with change and starting over.  It is often expressed in terms of making a New Year’s resolution.  We set goals and objectives for ourselves. The burst of inspiration affords us hope that drives the notion that the inspired goals are attainable.  So off we go into the New Year energized, inspired and actively pursuing our resolutions.  However, too often the pursuit is short lived. The fire of ambition to change and start over is doused by what may be perceived as redundancy, or maybe a weakened will or perhaps a new venture or desire.

Ephesians 4:22-24 (KJV) says You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

When it comes to our spiritual man, we simply cannot afford the luxury of a "short lived pursuit."  While I dare not discourage you from making a New Year’s resolution concerning your spiritual life, I do admonish that the maintenance of your spiritual life should never be limited by the likes of a New Year’s resolution.   The preservation of your spiritual man should be maintained and safeguarded on a daily basis.  Every day we should make an effort to put off our old self and seek newness of mind. in fact, believers are commanded to walk in in the way of our creation.  We are "created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

I encourage all... walking in the hope of your calling and putting on the NEW self is a decision that will afford genuine peace and prosperity for the New Year.

Yours in Christ,

-BISHOP
